Onpage SEO Explained

Since there are different techniques to make your site Search Engine Optimization friendly, these techniques are further classified into On-Page (also On-Site) and Off-Page SEO (also Off-Site) techniques. However, in this post you will find information regarding on-page SEO techniques. Stay with us till the end of this post to know more about On-Page SEO techniques.

What is On Page SEO and Its Aim?

On Page SEO is anything that is posted or directly on your website thus the name On-Page SEO and most of the time, all such factors are in your control because they are on your website. The aim of on-page SEO is to make your website as search engine and user friendly as possible by optimizing different aspects of your site. What are these different aspects that need to be optimized?

  • Using relevant keywords
  • Using title tags appropriately
  • Using H1, H2, H3 heading tags wisely
  • Using ALT Text for images on your site
  • Internal and External links
  • Optimizing all the above mentioned factors with the target keywords in a proper flow

So, these are the different factors of On-Page SEO which will now be covered briefly in the remaining post.

Relevant Keywords

It is always important to target and use those keywords which are relevant to your site’s niche as irrelevant keywords lead to inaccurate information for users as irrelevant keywords will make your posts show in the results but when then users will click on them they will directed to a website which is not actually relevant to what they were searching for. This is not good in the eyes of all the major search engines.

Title and Heading Tags

It’s important to create relevant titles and headings to your posts, keep them short and catchy at the same time. Moreover, it is recommended to use your main keyword or the target keyword once in the title and heading tags in order to make it more prominent on the site, but doesn’t use it more than three times, if you do so the bots or spiders of the search engines will consider the post as spam.

ALT Text

Bots and spiders of the search engines are not really good at reading multimedia files, so it’s important to add ALT Text to your images as it tells them what your images are about. Keep the text relevant to your site. ALT text is also important in image search results.

Post and Page URLs

Your post and page URLs should be optimized with the target keywords. Moreover, keep your URLs short and use relevant, major keywords you’re targeting.

Internal and External Linking

It is a good SEO practice to internally link the pages of your site, for instance, “About Us” page containing a link to “Contact Us” page and vice versa. Moreover, when linking to external sites always link to relevant and reputable sites as websites with bad reputations can also affect your rankings adversely.

Content of the Posts

Always write fresh, interesting, accurate and keyword quality content for your website. However, keep the balance when using different keywords in the content and don’t make it look like spam by adding the keywords after every other sentence. Make catchy titles and subheadings with the keywords to optimize the content.

    I just realized that I’ve been completely neglecting to add alt text to my images! I’m going to have to fix that as soon as possible!

      Hi Beth,

      Yes, alt text for images are important!
      The picture must also be relevant to the contents of the page.
