The compulsive checking your website rankings in Googleisn’t very healthy for you. There are some website owners that are constantly checking their rankings over and over again waiting for a miracle to transport them from page 78 to page # 1 overnight. This is not healthy as this obsession to keep checking your rankings will drive you bonkers. In fact, it might even hurt the very rankings you are obsessing over.
What are some ways to combat this destructive behavior? Here are a few things to remember to keep you balanced in your thinking:
1- Nothing is going to happen in the next few hours that will propel you to first place on Google. Let’s be real…its not going to happen. Don’t allow yourself to be fooled by all the hype and empty promises of guaranteed overnight success on page one of the search enginesTheir promises are for short term rankings only in a few days or weeks you will be invisible agin.
2- This is a long term project. So get comfortable to do this right will take a little work and some time. Google values websites that that have a history of solid steady growth. It will take anywhere from 3-6 months to begin to see the results you want.
3- We must be focused and consistent in our plan. We are only fooling ourselves if we think we can kick back and relax after building a few links. Remember it was the tortoise that won the race, not the hare that did everything real quick right away. Serious website owners plan on either having a monthly budget to perform ongoing search engine optimization maintenance or to implement themselves a steady program to build links,write articles, use social media and add valuable blog comments to theme realted blogs. Remember the competition out there is getting fierce. If you are waiting until you know how to do everything perfectly, before you know it you will 6 months to a year in the future and you will be in the same exact place you are now… Absolutely no where!
4- Don’t think that you will get a page one ranking with your little 5 page website, and a handful of back links alone. Google gives its blessing to those sites that are filled with helpful theme related information for the consumer. All the time you are wasting compulsively checking your rankings can be used to add an informative article a day to your site or blog. Remember, whoever has the most helpful information on their site usually wins. Google always favors the authoritative site with high page rank and search engine rankings.
5- Try not to not check your stats more than once a week. Give yourself time for your hard work to begin paying off.
